My Introduction Post

Hello to everyone who sees this blog!

Thanks to my friend "The TepBlogger", I have decided to start my own sports, music, and social journalist blog. I will try to have at least one post per week. I'll take this first blog to tell a little about myself...

My name is Kirk Allen Thomas, but most of my close friends just call me "Kaptain", an ode to William Shatner from the Star Trek series. I was born in Beaumont, Texas, about 45 minutes south of Houston, and raised in the amazing city of Dallas, Texas. I am a true Country Boy at heart, and my Southern Gentleman qualities come out to most people I meet. I high school, I was a member of the wrestling team, basketball team, and rugby team, so I have dealt with many aspects of sports, both team and individual.

Currently, I am a sophomore at the University of Missouri - Columbia, the number one journalism school in the nation! Go Tigers! I am a member of the National Association of Black Journalist, Ale' Chapter, as well as working with KOMU and MUTV, the local TV stations.

Music wise, I suppose you could call me a connoisseur. I love all types of music: R&B, Rap, Hip Hop, Jazz, Gospel, Alternative, Rock, Pop, and even some Country. I'll let you look at my iPod if you need proof. To me, music is one of the most influencial forms of communication people have. I can't tell you how many times I've brought up a song in a conversation that spark a completely different conversation. Everyone has a song that has a special meaning, and hopefully I will be able to discover what makes these songs so impactful.

Well I guess that's it for my first post. I have a feeling this is going to be fun.
